Responsibilities
•Develops, implements, assesses, and ensures efficient leadership and management of significant projects and teams; exhibits prompt delivery of outputs in compliance with overarching goals and guidelines in support of Subprogramme 3, Strengthened Climate Action and Improved Urban Environment. Supports collaborations with United Nations sister agencies, international, regional, and local urban stakeholders, as well as intergovernmental processes and meetings that are required to be held in relation to the Subprogramme. •Takes the helm of important programs like the Sustainable Urban Resilience for the Next Generation (SURGe) initiative, which was launched at COP27, and ensures strong communication and engagement with Member States. It also takes the lead in identifying important problems and creating well-thought-out, creative solutions to solve them.
•Acts as a persuasive spokesman both within and publicly and builds trusting relationships with key stakeholders. implements internal procedures related to Subprogramme 3, such as the Environmental Management System and Social and Environmental Safeguards System of UN-Habitat.
•Develops, implements, and evaluates assigned programs/projects, etc.; monitors and analyzes program/project development and implementation; reviews pertinent documents and reports; identifies issues and problems that need to be addressed and starts corrective actions; coordinates with pertinent parties; ensures follow-up actions.
•Works with the client to complete consulting assignments by helping to create the action plan that will be used to manage the change and arranging and facilitating workshops and other interactive sessions.
•Researches, evaluates, and displays data obtained from various sources.
•Coordinates the formulation of policy, including the study and analysis of problems and trends, the creation of assessments or other research projects.
•Coordinates North-South cooperation as well as training and knowledge sharing.
•Creates survey ideas; plans data gathering methods; evaluates, examines, and deciphers replies; identifies issues; and drafts findings.
•Organizes and prepares textual outputs, including portions of reports and studies, background papers in draft form, analyses, input for publishing, etc.
•Offers substantive support for consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., by suggesting agenda items, choosing attendees, putting together materials and presentations, etc.
•Starts and oversees outreach initiatives; runs seminars, workshops, and other types of training; and gives presentations on certain subjects or activities.
•Leads and/or takes part in big, complex field missions, giving direction to outside consultants, government representatives, and other parties, and creating mission summaries, among other things.
•Coordinates budget funding-related tasks (programme/project planning and submission, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and creates pertinent paperwork (pledging, work schedule, budget for program, etc.).
•Supports data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation, and reporting by gathering and analyzing data to find trends or patterns and providing insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports utilizing data visualization techniques.
•Conducts any additional tasks that may be assigned.

Education
- Master’s degree or its equivalent in urban planning, environmental management, climate change management, or a similar discipline from an advanced university.
- The advanced university degree may be substituted with a first-level university degree and two (2) more years of relevant experience.
- It would be ideal to successfully complete both degree-granting and non-degree data analytics, business analytics, or data science programs.
Experience at Work
- It takes at least seven years of steadily increasing responsibility in project or program management, administration, or a similar field.
- It is necessary to have experience creating and implementing urban planning, urban climate change, and related projects.
- It would be ideal to have previous leadership, management, mentoring, development, and evaluation experience.
- Experience implementing environmental or climate change policies, guidelines, and standards at the national or organizational level is preferred.
- It would be ideal if you had experience planning and carrying out initiatives relating to environmental, social, or organizational compliance with the law.
- It would be ideal if you have experience in training, institutional reform, or capacity development with an emphasis on sustainable urban development.
- Experience addressing women’s rights or gender mainstreaming is preferred.
- Experience in data analytics or a related field of at least two (2) years is preferred.
Languages
- The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. English proficiency is necessary for the role advertised. It is advantageous to be familiar with another official UN language.
- NOTE: “Fluency” equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, and understand), and “Knowledge of” is a rating of “confident” in two of the four.
