Theme
- The Wellbeing Economy and Economies of Care are important, cross-cutting concepts that are acknowledged by the Alternative Futures – UAE initiative. These ideas emphasise holistic development and redefine wellbeing and economic systems in terms that go beyond GDP. The allocation of resources fairly, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and general well-being are given top priority in the wellbeing economy. In promoting social cohesion and sustainability, Economies of Care emphasises the importance of healthcare, education, social services, and community support systems.
- For the Alternative Futures – UAE project, we invite both theoretical and practical research submissions, but we especially urge articles based on applied research that are based on secondary data or expand upon already published research publications. We think that by making use of current facts and useful insights, applied research may provide worthwhile answers to pressing problems. During COP28, these papers will be crucial in educating and equipping policymakers with relevant and practical advice.
- We invite everyone to take part, whether you prefer to work alone or in groups. Your original thoughts and perceptions could have a big impact on the UAE’s path towards sustainable growth.
Participants can organise their submissions into these subject categories to focus on particular facets of the UAE’s journey towards sustainable development.
Award
- The reward given for submissions will not be monetary in nature and will be given in appreciation for the researchers’ efforts.Researchers may take part fully in these important events without having to worry about paying for them thanks to the prize, which covers the travel expenses related to attending COP28. By offering this assistance, the award hopes to give researchers the chance to present their work, make connections with authorities in their field, and establish beneficial business links.
Eligibility
- We strongly encourage students and independent researchers connected to UAE organisations, including both undergraduate and graduate students, to submit to this call for submissions, however it is accessible to everyone.
- We are grateful for their significant contributions to the Alternative Futures – UAE project, where we are looking for creative research papers describing alternative future scenarios addressing the opportunities and challenges in the UAE’s journey towards sustainable development.
Selection Committee and Evaluation Process
- The Alternative Futures – UAE project’s call for submissions will be evaluated using different criteria and by different evaluators over the course of two rounds.
- Phase 1: Greenpeace MENA members are chosen by the Alternative Future Team.
- The Greenpeace MENA Alternative Future Team will review the submissions during this stage. The following significant elements will be examined:
- Overall Quality: The entries will be evaluated based on the depth of analysis, consistency of the arguments, and clarity of the concepts presented.
Innovation: To recognise creative concepts, the level of originality, ingenuity, and uniqueness displayed by the submitted papers will be assessed. - Probability of Implementation: The proposed solutions’ viability and practicality, as well as the necessary resources and any roadblocks, will be taken into account.
- Relevance to the Call: The conformity of the contributions with the goals and thematic areas of the project.
- In the final judgement, each of these elements will be given an equal weight of 25%. The Greenpeace MENA Alternative Future Team will ensure a full and comprehensive evaluation of the proposals, contributing their knowledge and viewpoints to the decision-making process.
- Selection by the remainder of the evaluation panel during Phase 2
- The applications that have passed the initial screening by the Alternative Future Team will go through additional review by an evaluation panel in the second round. Their wide range of viewpoints and knowledge will aid in a thorough analysis.
