The Irish Tech Challenge South Africa was established by the Irish Embassy in South Africa, the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), and the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) to encourage partnerships between Irish technology expertise and South African entrepreneurs and businesses and to support innovation, technology development, and technology deployment/commercialization in South Africa.

It is widely acknowledged that South African tech entrepreneurs have the potential to play a significant role in driving innovation, economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction. The lack of resources, high technological prices, and lack of access to networks and infrastructure provide challenges for tech entrepreneurs whose goods or services are ready to scale internationally.

Given Ireland’s expanding importance as a worldwide technology hub that provides access to European and international markets, the Irish digital Challenge South Africa gives high-growth digital entrepreneurs the chance to capitalise on benefits from working with key Irish ecosystem members.

Benefits

  • An opportunity to network internationally and gain access to the knowledge of top IT executives during a 10-day business networking programme in Ireland.
  • Funding for each chosen business of up to €10,000.
  • Support for startups seeking to position their global expansion plan through acceleration or mentoring.
  • Given Ireland’s expanding status as a worldwide technological hub that provides access to European and international markets, this fund hopes to reap numerous advantages from working with important Irish ecosystem participants. Nine of the top 10 US technology businesses and the top five global software corporations are based in Ireland, which is the second-largest supplier of computer and IT services worldwide.
