Responsibilities

  • To complete the responsibilities listed below, the consultant will collaborate with ICFJ HQ programme staff, project partners, and participating journalists. Please be aware that each of these tasks must be completed in both languages:
  • Assist in the mentoring and editing of journalists’ program-related investigations, working closely with the ICFJ programme director and the director of the Border Centre for Journalists and Bloggers;
  • Give prompt, pertinent feedback on tale idea submissions;
  • Encourage the creation of proposals by journalists and offer thorough instructions on future actions;
  • Provide all information needed for ICFJ to prepare reports; Respond to inquiries on the program’s components and/or journalists’ work methods from all parties involved;
  • Support the journalists taking part in programme activities with editing assistance.

Duration

  • The consultancy should start in October 2023, and the contract will be updated yearly based on the ICFJ headquarters programme staff’s assessment of how well the objectives have been met.

Location

  • Any site may serve as the base for this position. Most of the work can be completed online via Zoom, email, etc. At the headquarters in Washington, D.C., the consulting firm will answer to the Senior Programme Director. The need will dictate where you go in the Americas and to the United States. Travel expenses that are reasonable and essential will be covered.

required knowledge and credentials:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a college or university with academic accreditation, or the equivalent professional experience as an editor or journalist for one to three years;
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel;
  • Editing or covering border-related problems;
  • Experience in data journalism or investigative reporting;
  • knowledge of managing a multicultural, diversified staff;
  • Being open to travelling within the Americas for training purposes as required by the project;
  • The capacity for independent labour;
  • Applications won’t be taken into consideration if they don’t meet the threshold for fluency in Spanish.
