The Africa Consortium for Quality Improvement Research in Frontline Healthcare (ACQUIRE) is delighted to extend an invitation to all frontline healthcare workers and leadership in Africa to take part in this special opportunity to share your perspectives and experiences in the ongoing discussion about quality improvement in healthcare as part of the World Patient Safety celebrations this year.
Engaging Patients for Patient Safety is the subject for World Patient Safety Week this year. As a result, they invite you to share your experiences with projects focusing on patient safety, quality improvement, or other topics where you believe patients’ voices were heard.
Prizes
- $750 for first place.
- Runner-up: $500
- $250 for third place.
- In addition, each entry that meets the requirements of the QI test of change will win a $50 cash award!
- At a storytelling webinar on September 29, 2023, the top 10 submissions will also receive the exceptional opportunity to share their story with senior WHO and IHI leaders.
Eligibility
- They are looking for original, genuine stories. All submissions must be the participants’ original work, and they should be able to be verified if necessary. This means that in order to authenticate your submissions, they will need the contact information of a referee, coworker, or supervisor.
- The impact on patients or hospital systems should be described in the narratives using quantifiable or observable evidence. This might consist of data, testimonies, or before-and-after examples. They want to know about any effect on a patient’s journey or involvement in a group effort that produced real system-wide benefits.
- Your submission’s events should have occurred within the last two years. This makes sure that the content cover the most recent advancements and viewpoints in healthcare.
- English or French should be used for all tales. Videos having speakers of a different language should have transcriptions with English subtitles.
- The material of submissions should be organised and clearly written or presented. Videos should have high audio and visual quality, while abstracts should flow logically. The story should, in theory, have a distinct beginning or past and a clear current.
- Ethics should be followed, and patient privacy should be respected, in narratives. Be careful not to include any delicate personal details without permission.
- The organisers welcome narratives that include testimonies from a variety of viewpoints, including those of patients, healthcare professionals, carers, and administrators. This will give a complete picture of the effect on different stakeholders.
Application
- Share a summary of your Quality Improvement efforts together with video evidence.
- Give a brief, abstract summary of the story’s main points. Point out the actions taken for improvement, the information gathered, the lessons learned, and the change that resulted. Abstracts must follow the following format: Title, Author, Organisation & Email of Contact, Background/Purpose/Rationale, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, and Recommendations.
- Video: Include a gripping video presentation that brings the story to life along with the abstract. Testimonials, before-and-after scenes, or any other visual components that convey the evidence of change could be included in the videos.
