The Jana Robeyst Trust Fund (JRTF) provides financial resources to early career
biologists/conservationists to carry out vital field conservation and research work in Africa.

Our trust fund wish to support Early career biologists financially on a small scale, with amounts up to a maximum of 1500 euro per application. It is often difficult for biologists to find funding for small projects. We would also fund travel to a seminar and the purchase of equipment

Eligibility

  • The JRTF aims to provide relatively small levels of funding for ongoing projects or pilot programmes
  • with a clear conservation value.
  • This funding program is open to individuals or organizations for projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. We
  • accept projects related to the conservation of mammals and especially (forest) elephants.
  • Applicants can be based anywhere in the world.
  • Small grants will be awarded up to a maximum of 1,500 euro.
  • Both successful and unsuccessful applicants are welcome to apply again 12 months after the
  • submission.

Funding deadlines

  • We accept applications throughout the year, but only three rounds of grants are made: 30th April,
  • 31th August and 31th December each year.
  • The outcomes are announced maximum six weeks after the deadline. If awarded, the funds will be
  • allocated within four weeks after acceptance to the individual’s bank account.

How to apply?


Interested applicants should submit the grant form in English or French. Additional information may
be provided in separate attachments.

We will request:

  • The grant form fully completed
  • CV with the contact details of two references (if one letter of reference is sent with the
    application, the referees will not be contacted, the referees need to have a professional email
    addresses).
  • The application must be send through a professional email address (not Yahoo, Gmail,
    Hotmail, etc.). If not possible, please send a proof of affiliation with a university, research
    institution or non-profit organization.

Applications should be send in word or PDF format to info@janatrustfund.org with the mention
“Grant Application chosen deadline your name”

What project is eligible for funding?

  • Eligible project will have a clear conservation value and be based in a country in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Preference will go to projects in relation with elephants. Education projects will also be considered.
  • Travel costs for presentation of the project at a conference, or participation to workshop/training
  • program will also be considered.
  • Purchase of field equipment if they are essential in completing field work.

What project is not eligible for funding?

  • Pure research will not be funded. Research project will be considered if they demonstrate applied
  • benefit to conservation and/or target an identified conservation need.
  • Living costs, salary’s, thesis production costs, retrospective costs, fundraising costs, and payment of
  • a debt will not be considered for funding.
  • Office equipment and participation to internship and volunteer programs will not be considered
  • unless they are essential in completing fieldwork or benefitting an identified conservation need.
