Ashinaga Africa Initiative 2024 for Young African Leaders

Deadline: the 12th of January 2024 | Ashinaga Africa Initiative 2024 for Young African Leaders

The Ashinaga Africa Initiative 2024 for Young African Leaders is now accepting applications. The Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) is a global leadership initiative that develops the next generation of leaders to support sub-Saharan Africa’s development.

There are three phases to the program:

Study Camp and Preparation Camp:

From July to December 2024, Ashinaga will choose students from each Sub-Saharan African nation to attend a Study Camp in Uganda or Senegal. Typically, English-speaking students will attend the camp in Uganda, while French-speaking students will attend the camp in Senegal. Students receive help with academic planning, university admissions (to either Japan, the U.K., the U.S.A., or Europe), career planning, and leadership development at the Study Camp. The students will proceed to the Preparation Camp after finishing the Study Camp. Between April and June 2025, this occurs. The social, cultural, and academic changes that students will experience overseas are anticipated by them. at August or September 2025, students will then enroll at universities. Ashinaga has totally covered all expenses for both camps.
The program for students who choose to enroll in the Japanese language track, in which they study at a university in Japan in the language, will be identical, but they will concentrate during the Study Camp on rigorous Japanese language acquisition. Following the Study Camp, they will relocate to Japan where they will enroll in a language program for one to two years before beginning their university studies.

While in college:

The AAI assists students in obtaining full financial aid to study abroad. The financial assistance covers the first qualification that can be obtained, and, if necessary, the costs of a foundational or preparatory course will also be reimbursed. Ashinaga has regional offices to assist students while they are studying in Brazil, France, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan. The scholarship recipients will join Ashinaga’s leadership development programs and take part in a required internship in either Sub-Saharan Africa or their own nation. Students who want to pursue a master’s degree or a second degree cannot apply to the AAI.

Following graduation, scholars are expected to return to their home nations or Sub-Saharan Africa within four years and make a positive contribution to the nation or region while residing there for at least a year. During this time, they must get in touch with Ashinaga and give details regarding their activity and residence.
