A motivating entry point into the World Bank Group is the World Bank Group Young Professionals Program (WBG YPP). Young professionals with a range of academic and professional experiences relevant to the World Bank, IFC, and MIGA are hired from all around the world. Eligibility prerequisites
Those who wish to be considered for the WBG YPP must:
- Born after October 1, 1990
- possess a PhD or master’s degree*
- Focus on a specialty related to the YPP Business Areas
- Show evidence of relevant work experience or ongoing PhD study.*
- proficiency in English
- The Bank Group’s hiring philosophy is to select employees of the best caliber from as many different geographic locations as is practical, giving preference to citizens of WBG member nations or countries where the Bank conducts business.

Health, Life, Accident, and Other Insurance Programs Staff hired by Headquarters and their eligible family members (including domestic partners) may select one of three comprehensive medical/dental benefit plans, with no pre-existing condition exclusions, if enrollment is made within 60 days of entry-on-duty.
Pension Scheme
All employees are covered by a comprehensive pension plan provided by the World Bank Group. Contributions from both employees and the World Bank Group go toward a pension that is accessed after retirement.
Benefits for expatriates, resettlement, and relocation
The World Bank Group pays relocation payments upon appointment and resettlement benefits upon termination of employment for employees hired to jobs that are subject to international recruitment. Additionally, the World Bank provides qualified foreign employees hired for positions at its headquarters that are open to international applications with a mobility premium. Eligibility is determined by nationality and the presence of a valid visa or legal resident at the appointment duty station.
Paid Holiday
26 days of annual vacation and 15 days of sick leave, earned daily, are provided to new employees. Parental leave is offered for births and/or adoption (100 days for the primary caregiver; 50 days for the secondary caregiver).

- 3 letters of recommendation from professionals or academic institutions** *Diploma, letter of degree completion, proof of enrollment with anticipated graduation date, or transcript.
During the eligibility screening phase, recommendations will be asked by email.
Short Essay Prompt
Please respond to each of the following questions in 500 words or less:
- What qualifies you as a strong applicant for the World Bank Group Young Professionals Program and why do you want to join the program? Please explain why you prefer to take part in the program at the World Bank, IFC, or MIGA in your response.
- Numerous nations face a complex problem as a result of overlapping crises like disease outbreaks, effects of climate change, conflicts, and financial crises, as well as financial and resource limits.
- What recommendations do you have for the World Bank Group in terms of helping nations overcome this challenge, including enhancing their ability to respond to and care for the needs of their most vulnerable citizens, collaborating with the private sector to raise and enable development financing, and engaging with the global community?
- If at all possible, use examples from your technical knowledge and experience to illustrate your response.
THE CONVERSATION
A hybrid format (virtual and in-person) will be used for YPP interviews, and it may include:
- (On Hirevue) Pre-recorded interview
- live panel discussion
- a testing facility where you will be required to take part in both individual and group activities
- Financial tests for IFC applicants that are timed on a computer
- As the process progresses, more information will be given to candidates who are asked to interview.
Candidates are evaluated based on their background, technical proficiency, and skills including customer focus, leadership, and communication.
