The SDG Innovation Challenge is a catalyst for young Africans (18-35 years old) to create cross-border, sustainable solutions to local problems in order to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from the ground up. It is designed as a virtual, pan-African collaborative arena. Since 2020, the participants in this challenge have been required to use innovation, teamwork, and complicated thinking to approach problems measurably and methodically.
Challenge Information
The driving force behind sustainable development, innovation unearths projects that strengthen resilience, help with more equal resource distribution, promote inclusiveness, lessen environmental stress, and more! Additionally, they highlight teamwork and partnerships as the main axes around which their efforts are focused, in line with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)!
In light of this, Melton Foundation announces the SDG Innovation Challenge 2023, which builds on earlier initiatives to provide room for a larger audience and wider perspectives. The SDG Innovation Challenge 2023, which runs concurrently with the Global Goals Week (15–23 September), pledges to work with over 150 international partners to mobilize, demand urgency to turn the tide for the global goals, and supercharge solutions for people and the environment. It supports the annual week of action, awareness, and accountability for the Sustainable Development Goals.
The SDG Innovation Challenge 2023 brings together young talent with three main objectives under the subject Mobilizing the African Youth for Sustainable Impact.
by bringing together innovators from all backgrounds and industries, to inspire original thought.
the creation of useful, impactful solution concepts through cross-border cooperation.
to spur revolutionary action for improved community livelihoods and sustainable development across Africa.

Eligibility
- Open to young Africans who are passionate about bringing about change at the local level;
- age range of 18 to 35;
- Share a passion, desire, and dedication to enhancing the standard of living in your neighborhood and beyond.
- genuinely care about sustainable development and want to help the SDGs spread throughout your town and the world.
- Have the drive to participate actively during the event.
- be able to collaborate with people from many disciplines and locations in an interdisciplinary team.
- Have the drive to work in an agile hackathon-like setting and generate several ideas throughout the SDG Innovation Challenge.
- Be determined to see the project through to completion and to continue supporting the cause after the SDG Innovation Challenge.
All project suggestions must:
- Possess a relationship to the central theme of mobilizing African youth for lasting impact.
- able to relate to one or more central ideas.
- help their community modify its attitudes and behaviors.
- contribute to making society more inclusive.
- Must show evidence of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), as well as shifting mindsets and behavior, employment, digital transformation, partnerships, and collaborations.
