The entrance exams for the seventeenth (17th) set of the MTN/MUSON Diploma Course in Music for the academic year 2023–2024 have been announced by the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) and the MTN Foundation (MTNF).
The staff and facilities at the MUSON Diploma School of Music are up to par with global requirements for music instruction.

The September 5th through September 8th, 2023, dates for the entrance exams are as follows:
A written test on music theory at the appropriate Grade 5 level and knowledge of general music:
- Time: September 5, 2023 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
A Grade 5 or higher major instrument or voice audition in front of a faculty jury
- Time: September 6, 2023 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The diploma program is a full-time, two-year program that offers advanced training in a variety of instruments, including classical guitar, voice, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and trombone.
Students must also enroll in two terms of a minor instrument from a different family than their primary instrument. Vocal technique for instrumentalists, grade 2 piano for voice students, and choir membership are all requirements. Each string major must participate in the orchestra. All majors in wind and percussion are required to be in band. You are welcome to try out for the orchestra band even if you are not a major.
Entry requirements
Candidates for the MTNF/MUSON diploma program in music should meet the following minimal standards:
- Having earned credits in five (5) topics, including English Language, for the General Certificate of Education (G.C.E) Ordinary Level, or
- English language credit on the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE)
- Before being admitted to the diploma course, the 5 credits have to be earned in no more than two sittings.
Other Conditions
- PRACTICAL: A pass certificate from The MUSON School of Music’s fifth-grade level or higher, or from any other music examination body accepted by The MUSON School.
- THEORY: A pass certificate from the MUSON School of Music’s fifth grade or above, or from any other organization that the MUSON School has approved as a music assessing body.
- NB: Candidates who hold the aforementioned practical or theoretical certificates would also have met the requirements for the SSCE or GCE (O/L).
Candidates who don’t meet the theory standards but exhibit exceptional practical competence may still be accepted. These students are required to enroll in a remedial theory course and fulfill the prerequisites within the first year.
