The Democratic Alliance (DA) Young Leaders Programme 2024 is currently accepting applications. A political leadership learning and development program for South Africans between the ages of 18 and 35 who identify with the DA’s ideals of Freedom, Fairness, Opportunity, and Diversity is the Young Leaders Programme (YLP) of the Democratic Alliance (DA). In order to create One Nation with One Future, program participants are highly driven individuals who are interested in pursuing careers in politics or the public sector.
Participants in the program will have the opportunity to develop their communication, critical thinking, and political knowledge over the course of a year. During sessions specifically focused on leadership and personal development, participants will also have a far deeper understanding of themselves, their individual leadership style, and their development needs. Additionally, Young Leaders will be expected to develop and carry out a leadership project, providing them with a special chance to increase their influence, self-awareness, and emotional maturity in order to develop into dynamic, resilient leaders capable of taking on politics on a national scale.
Cost
The DA will pay for all expenses that are directly related to the YLP.
Eligibility
- Open to all young South Africans between the ages of 18 and 35 who have a history of exemplary leadership.
- These candidates must share the DA’s mission and have demonstrated that they are passionate leaders determined to change South Africa.
- Participants must either reside in South Africa, or if temporarily overseas, they must return in time for the program to begin. Travel expenses outside of the United States are not covered by the Young Leaders Program.
- Young leaders frequently exhibit many of the following traits.

- a commitment to the Democratic Party’s ideology of “One Nation with One Future,” which is based on our values of “Freedom, Fairness, Opportunity, and Diversity;
- a deep interest and understanding of South African politics and current events;
- a thorough knowledge of the DA’s guiding principles and directives;
- a proven track record of leadership
- examples and proof of taking initiative and moving outside of one’s typical job to initiate something new;
- the capacity for sound argument and reasoning;
- zeal, determination, and assurance;
- a sincere desire to engage in politics actively in the future;
- a great degree of emotional intelligence, maturity, and self-awareness;
- participation in the DA.
Application
After the Young Leaders Office has examined an application, the applicant will get a confirmation email in 2 working days saying whether or not their application package is complete. Contact the office if you do not receive this confirmation.
All candidates who successfully turned in a comprehensive application package will also need to finish a two-hour online test.
