Focus Regions

  • Solutions for CCUS and carbon removal
  • Including direct air and direct ocean collection, carbon capture
  • Utilization of carbon dioxide (synthetic fuels, environmentally friendly chemicals, food and beverages, long-lasting solutions like building materials, other industry)
  • Efficiency improvements in the carbon dioxide value chain, as well as carbon dioxide transportation and storage

Carbon-free hydrogen

  • production of natural hydrogen; hydrogen with zero or low carbon content (such as green, blue, or turquoise).

Eligibility requirements

Technology must be being developed that fits into one of the target areas. Your new business must also:

  • Applicants must be working on cutting-edge, wholly owned clean energy technologies.
  • The applicant company’s technology must have a TRL of 2 or higher (early-stage technology concept) or 6 (technology prototype shown in a relevant setting). Even if your business has additional technologies with a higher TRL, you can still apply as long as the technology you use is TRL 2 to 6.
  • Each technology that is approved for the program must be capable of lowering greenhouse gas emissions. TechX concentrates on innovations with industrial uses. Technologies with only industrial, commercial, or domestic uses are not covered.
  • All start-ups are required to make a 15-week commitment to the program, committing to sending at least one team member to all mandatory sessions and meetings. This entails making the trip to Aberdeen for three weeks of in-person instruction, taking part in consistent online seminars with a GMT time zone, and being available from Monday through Thursday for the whole program.
  • All start-ups need to want to use their technology or have an economic impact in Scotland’s North East and the rest of the UK. The initiative welcomes start-ups from all around the world, but they must establish a UK business and explain how they intend to help the UK.
  • To be eligible for funding, all startups must comply with the Subsidy Control Act (2022). The company cannot exceed the Minimal Financial Assistance cap during the previous three years as a result of the £100k TechX grant.
  • Startups cannot submit the same technology to TechX Accelerator more than three times.
