It honors the innovative accomplishments and efforts of public service organizations that improve the efficiency and responsiveness of public administrations across the globe. The UN Public Service Awards encourage the importance, professionalism, and exposure of public service through an annual competition.
The purpose of the UN Public Service Day is to honor the importance and virtue of public service to society, to draw attention to how it aids in development, to commemorate the efforts of public employees, and to inspire young people to work in the public sector. The United Nations has seen an increase in entries from all over the world since the first Awards Ceremony in 2003.
