The Health Data Analytics (HDA) Graduate Fellowship 2023 is now accepting applications. The purpose of this fellowship is to develop HDA expertise at higher academic and research levels, with a focus on the growth of Multi-Source Data Analytics and Triangulation (MSDAT) and associated fields.

The next phase of technology and data analytical inventions/innovations to build on the MSDAT platform for better healthcare delivery and health system monitoring in Nigeria would be informed by the findings of this fellowship. The HDA fellowship has the following goals:

boost regional capabilities for health data analytics research
In particular, encourage the creation of the MSDAT platform for health data.
Increasing the platform’s use of MSDAT
Use research findings to guide the establishment of Health Information Systems (HIS) policies
help research reports be published in reputable journals

Eligibility

To qualify for this fellowship, a person must meet the following criteria:

  • Must possess a valid form of identification, such as an international passport, a driver’s license, a voter ID card, or a NIN card;
  • must be enrolled in postgraduate studies at an institution of higher learning with valid identification;
  • For Master’s students with a minimum 3.5/5.0 CGPA (Second class higher honors), and PhD candidates with a minimum of a Merit or its equivalent in a Master’s degree;
  • The following areas should be the focus of research in order to improve the Nigerian health system:
  • Management of Data
  • Data visualization
  • Data Analysis
  • Integration of Data
  • health results
  • health insurance
  • Population of the health workforce and demographics
  • Availability and preparedness of health facility services
  • Impact on health Advanced analytics
  • advocacy for open data
  • Demand and application of big data in the health sector
  • Health data modeling using statistics
  • Interoperability of health information systems
  • Machine intelligence

Application

  • Fill out all sections of the HDA fellowship form(s) and include the necessary files. These consist of:
  • transcripts from an accredited university
  • CVs, or curriculum vitae
  • acceptance letters
  • Purpose statement, no more than 500 words.
  • Research proposal/summary with execution schedules
  • a letter of reference from a manager, department head, or dean
  • a paper that has already been released, if possible. This would be an additional benefit.
  • There must be a 2-minute video of the candidate outlining their research plan and goals.
  • Each application will be carefully examined before a decision is made by the HDA fellowship committee. If chosen, candidates would be informed that they have been awarded the research grant (within 8 weeks after the application deadline).
  • Successful candidates must send an email to “accept” the offer in writing within a week.

Note: Money should ONLY be used for research. The money could be used to pay for publications, books, equipment, and travel (for things like data collection activities). The HDA fellowship committee would need to authorize any costs that are incidental to the research.
