Young, independent scholars who exhibit the highest degree of scholarly excellence as well as a clear enthusiasm for making an impact are encouraged to apply to join the Global Youth Academy.
Each GYA member is expected to participate actively in one or more of the organization’s programs (working groups and committees), which may include participation in policy development, promotion of National Young Academies, aiding science outreach and education at the national and international levels, and the young scientist ambassador program. GYA members are also expected to attend the organization’s annual general meeting. Being a member of the GYA necessitates a time commitment of 4 hours per month from each member because it is an active organization. Applicants should be ready to attend the following Annual General Meeting, which is set for 7 May – 10 May 2024 in Washington, D.C., USA, if they are chosen as new GYA members.
Eligibility
- Open to all academics conducting research in all fields of the physical, social, and natural sciences, as well as the arts and humanities.
- Candidates must be able to demonstrate a high level of excellence in their field, as shown by a track record of success and anticipated future accomplishments. Additionally, candidates must exhibit a strong dedication to changing society. The minimum qualification for applicants is a PhD or equivalent.
- The Global Young Academy is dedicated to a wide range of global programs that encourage international and interdisciplinary cooperation, assist young researchers, engage in policy discussion, and promote science to a wide audience. Candidates should demonstrate their interest or prior experience in one or more of these fields.
- Candidates should be between the ages of 30 and 40 and in the early to middle stages of their independent careers, or roughly seven years out from a PhD. Candidates outside of these ranges are nevertheless encouraged to submit their applications along with a reason for why they ought to be taken into consideration.
Application
Before September 20, 2023 at 16.00 (4 pm) UTC, the application must be filed online using the application form. The basic biographical information requested on this form is combined with a number of quick essay questions.

- 4 pages maximum length. Any submission that exceeds the 4-page restriction must be disregarded, according to the Selection Committee members. Your resume should highlight your accomplishments for a broad readership and include a succinct background of your schooling and employment. For instance, a brief summary of your most important articles is more helpful than a comprehensive list of all the papers you have written.
- letters of recommendation
- Make plans to submit at least one letter of support for your GYA-focused application. Letters written for another reason won’t be accepted. Your referees should be knowledgeable about your research background and be able to speak to your reputation as one of the top academics in your nation.
- One letter, if possible, should come from your national academy or a similar organization. Additional letters of recommendation should come from your company, the research institution, or another expert with knowledge of your work if this is not possible or you desire to submit them. References from individuals or characters are not necessary. Your referee(s) should write letters to you directly and in their own words.
