The Kader Asmal Fellowship for South Africans in 2024–2025 is now accepting applications. A flagship program of the Irish Embassy in South Africa that is available to South African students is the Kader Asmal Fellowship Program. The Kader Asmal Fellowship Program is designed for young South African professionals with leadership potential.

The scholarship broadly promotes leadership for the Sustainable Development Goals. With the main emphasis being the encouragement of women’s participation in STEM fields. And the growth of their leadership potential. Graduates of Universities of Historical Disadvantage and Universities of Technology in particular are urged to apply. In addition, the Kader Asmal Fellowship Programme aims to support students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to continue Master’s level studies in Ireland.
Costs
The award includes program fees, travel, lodging, and living expenses.
Eligibility
Candidates must:
- be a citizen of South Africa who resides there.
- possess a least of two years of meaningful work experience in a field directly related to the program(s) of study you propose.
- possess a bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited and government-recognized higher education institution, which is equivalent to a first- or second-class honors grade one (a second-class honors grade two may be accepted if the applicant has a significant amount of directly relevant work experience). It has to have been given away no earlier than 2012, or during the previous 12 years.
- not currently own a master’s degree or higher. Not presently enrolled in a master’s degree program or higher, or scheduled to begin a master’s degree program or higher in the academic year 2023–2024.
- be submitting an application to start a new master’s program in Ireland no earlier than August 2024.
- Be able to show that you have leadership skills and aspirations, are dedicated to helping your country achieve the SDGs, and are willing to do your part to foster good relations with Ireland.
- have chosen three programs from the Directory of Eligible Programs that are pertinent to your academic and professional background.
- Clearly comprehend the academic and English language requirements for all of the chosen programs.
- must not have previously submitted more than one application to the Ireland Fellows Program.
- be able to accept the Fellowship for the 2024–2025 academic year.
