The GEEP 2023 Youth Innovation Challenge: Saving Our Seas has been announced with excitement! This year’s challenge offers an opportunity for young people aged 15 to 30 from all over the world to share their creative solutions to protect marine resources and support people of all ages to be active stewards for marine conservation thanks to a partnership with the Taiwan Ocean Conservation Administration (OCA). They are searching for creative, workable, and research-based solutions.
Benefits
There will be 15 YIC finalists chosen, and they will gain access to the following advantages:
- a certified record of being a YIC finalist.
- Recognition via the websites and social media accounts of international partners including GEEP, NAAEE, and others
- a late 2023 invitation to a virtual discussion with other YIC honorees. The recipients will have the chance to exchange ideas, gain insight from other viewpoints, and broaden their network during this interactive discussion.
- From the 15 YIC finalists, 3 winners will be chosen. In addition to all the benefits mentioned above, each winner will also receive a $1,000 USD award.
Eligibility
The Youth Innovation Challenge is designed for young inventors and leaders between the ages of 15 and 30. Your creative solutions must address one of the following pressing issues, with environmental education playing a crucial role:
- The management, preservation, and/or restoration of maritime biodiversity for its ecological, cultural, economic, and/or other values. This may involve utilizing education as a crucial instrument in the creation and/or management of marine protected areas (MPA) in accordance with the global 30 X 30 project, which aims to safeguard 30% of the surface of the Earth by 2030.
- Maritime debris: Reducing and/or reducing the consequences of maritime debris, which includes monitoring, cleaning up, and recycling marine trash, as well as teaching communities about how to handle these concerns.
