The Award
The FAO Award for Achievement honors professional accomplishments in a variety of fields, including, but not limited to, fisheries, forestry, climate, land and water, and animal and plant health. Any organization or person, including teams or employees of the FAO, is eligible to receive it in recognition of exceptional humanitarian or technical cooperation at the national level.
All candidates must show that they have made an exceptional and obvious contribution to the nation or nations to which they have been delegated, particularly in the areas of sustainable agricultural and rural development or food security. The establishment of training and research institutions, technical innovations in agriculture, fisheries, or forestry, institutional or administrative improvements, the discovery of new resources through research, surveys, or other investigations, accomplishments in any of the numerous other tasks entrusted to FAO staff or implementing partners, or any combination of these things, can be considered.
Eligibility
- Nominees must fulfill one or more of the requirements mentioned below in order to be eligible.
- The winning person or organization should have implemented a model program and either made an outstanding contribution to the development of the country or countries to which they were assigned, particularly in the areas of sustainable agricultural and rural development or food security.
- This contribution must be easily identifiable and may take the form of institutional or administrative improvements, technical innovations in agriculture, fisheries, or forestry, filling a critical gap and successfully meeting short-term technical assistance needs that could not be met by other sources of support, producing sustainable outcomes and outputs, and/or having specific catalytic effects like increased investment fund mobilization or extensive follow-up.
- The Awards will not consider anyone under the age of 18.
Nomination
In nations without an accredited FAO Representative, national or regional entities may submit nomination proposals to FAO Representatives or FAO Regional and Sub-regional Representatives. Additionally, nominations may be made by UNDP Resident Representatives or FAO National, Regional, and Sub-Regional Representatives. Use FAO-Awards@fao.org to get in touch with UN FAO.
