Do you care deeply about Kenyan youth’s food system? Join the Youth in Agribusiness Innovators Challenge 2023 for the chance to use your concept, innovation, and/or business to the fullest in changing the food system.
Food Security for Peace and Nutrition Africa (FSPN-Africa) is involving young innovators in driving the transformation of the food system in Kenya through the Youth in Agribusiness Innovators’ Challenge as part of the European Union-funded Healthy Diets 4 Africa Project.

The challenge’s major objective is to support, encourage, and mold young people’s agricultural, food, and nutrition innovations in order to position them for scalability. Through mentorship, connections to partners, experts, and essential resources, this program will give young people a platform to develop their skills and support the adoption of best practices for innovations in food and nutrition security that are scalable and sustainable.

- For scaling up innovation or a solution, training, mentoring, and custom matchmaking with industry actors are provided.
- Successful enterprises and innovations will get incentives in the range of USD $500 and USD $1,000.
Eligibility
You can submit your concept, innovation, or enterprise as an individual or as part of a team of up to five people, however no more than one candidate or team member should be older than 35.
For the Youth in Agribusiness Innovators Challenge, solutions should:
- Describe an issue with the food system in one or more of these themes:
- Sustainable Crop production innovations (technologies that increase productivity while conserving natural resources like soil and water)
- Urban and peri-urban agriculture (approaches that use confined locations to produce nutritious food)
- Value addition (approaches, procedures, methods, and businesses that turn unprocessed agricultural products into new goods)
- Innovations in storage and post-handling that aim to cut down on food loss and waste
- Keep the following in mind Value Networks
- Mushrooms, African leafy vegetables, pumpkin and/or pumpkin leaves are examples of vegetables.
- Cereals (Sorghum, Finger Millet, and/or Pearl Millet)
- Tubers (sweet potatoes or cassava)
- Pigeon peas, green beans, and/or other legumes
- Fruits (tree tomatoes, guavas, and baobabs are suitable additions).
- being present in Kenya.
- Demonstrate uniqueness, viability, and sustainability clearly.
