The deadline for applications is June 15, 2023. | A Fully Funded Training Opportunity Under the ITU’s Spectrum Management Program for Empowering Women
The “Policy and Regulation Initiative for Digital Africa” (PRIDA) project, a collaboration between the African Union (AU), the European Union (EU), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), aims to improve the capacities of AU Member States in the area of Internet Governance while enabling the African continent to benefit from digitalization.
Young women who are currently enrolled in their last year of studies would like to get completely paid training on spectrum management through the ITU-managed PRIDA initiative. Two sessions make up the training. 200 young women will be chosen from French-speaking nations in Africa for the inaugural training session, which will be held in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Spectrum management is the process of controlling how radio frequencies are used in order to encourage effective utilization and reap social benefits. The entire frequency range from 1 Hz to 3000 GHz (3 THz), which may be used for wireless communication, is often referred to as the radio spectrum. Spectrum management practices have to alter as a result of rising demand for services like mobile phones and many others. Due to technological advancements like 3G and 4G mobile services and the quick growth of wireless internet services, demand for wireless broadband has skyrocketed.
Objective
- To educate girls about issues related to the spectrum.
- To increase knowledge about and proficiency in spectrum management.
- To encourage students with spectrum difficulties to continue their studies.
Eligibility
Everyone taking part must:
- Be a young woman, 19 to 23 years old.
- Have a first university degree in telecommunication engineering, cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, data science, or a similar discipline and be enrolled in their last academic year of that degree. (Proof of enrolment will be needed).
- Have a GPA of at least 3.5 (Proof required).
- Possess a current passport.
- Have ancestry in one of the following French-speaking nations:
- Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea (Conakry), Guinea Bissau, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Niger, Republic of Congo, Sao Tome, Senegal, Seychelles, Togo, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates.
- Speak French at a proficient level.
- Excellent writing, analytical, and communication abilities.
