Regarding the Grant
Award for News/Media Literacy to recognize news media organizations and front-line teachers in the fight to As part of the three-year project “Promoting sustainable development through UNESCO’s programmes and sites,” the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe and the abrdn Charitable Foundation (aCF) are releasing a second call for applications for UNESCO-designated sites in Europe and North America.
Biosphere Reserves, Global Geoparks, and Natural and Mixed World Heritage Sites are examples of eligible UNESCO locations.
In three years, the initiative will cover a total of 15 sites. At the start of each one-year cycle, UNESCO and the project’s advisory board will choose 5 locations. Each chosen site will be required to work on the three anticipated outcomes and to concentrate on a single area of study for the duration of the project (for instance, if biodiversity is the chosen area of study, the site will implement research, education, and creative solutions related to biodiversity).
Sites for the project’s second year must be in the regions of Europe and North America. Priority will be given to locations directly under the control of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe. Areas with several UNESCO designations, or multi-designated areas, will be given preference. Two locations that are geographically close to one another, such a Global Geopark and a Biosphere Reserve, may elect to submit a joint proposal.
The initiative will provide funding to each chosen location for up to 25,000 USD to implement activities related to the three anticipated results. The chosen sites will have to submit a thorough budget with itemized expenditures as well as an implementation strategy.
Sites and UNESCO will collaborate closely to realize the three anticipated consequences locally. In particular, UNESCO will collaborate with the chosen sites to guarantee that the planned work is strongly related to UNESCO priorities (namely MAB, IHP, IGGP, and IOC) and scaleable on a regional and global scale. In addition, UNESCO will collaborate closely with the communities taking part in the activities (such as the schools).
Throughout the course of the three-year initiative, the 5 selected sites (per year) will have the chance to collaborate and assist one another. Sites will be given the opportunity to discuss the outcomes of their efforts to UNESCO, the aCF, as well as at conferences held across the world by UNESCO.
