The Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2024 is now accepting nominations. This esteemed award recognizes outstanding contributions made by people or organizations in addressing the world’s water challenges by creating or implementing cutting-edge policies, programs, or technologies that benefit humanity.
At a side event sponsored by Singapore during the UN 2023 Water Conference in New York, Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu announced the opening of nominations for the LKYWP 2024. International water industry executives who highlighted best practices for utilizing technology for sustainable water management attended the Singapore event on “Water, Technology, and Sustainable Development” in large numbers. In support of Sustainable Development Goal 6, the leaders also discussed how the international community can band together to spur innovation for a future that is water-resilient.

The LKYWP is named after Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the first prime minister of Singapore, whose vision and leadership allowed Singapore to achieve a sustainable water supply despite being a highly urbanized city-state with little natural water resources. Since its debut in 2008, the Temasek Foundation-sponsored Prize has established a solid reputation in the international water community for its recognition of cutting-edge water technology, policies, or programs that have revolutionized their field of application.
Award
The LKYWP 2024 Laureate will be revealed on March 22, 2024, World Water Day. At a ceremony held during the 10th Singapore International Water Week, which will take place from June 18 to 22 in Singapore, the laureate will be presented with S$300,000, a gold medallion, and a diploma.
Eligibility
- Any candidate for the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize must have made remarkable contributions to the realm of water.
- The paper ought to have shown how novel the programs, policies, or technology were.
- The project must have a demonstrated impact or have the potential to change the game in the future.
- Self-nominations and nominations made by a nominee’s family members won’t be allowed.
Selection Standards
- The nominator should explain the nominee’s part in the creation and application of the particular technologies, laws, or programs that serve as the foundation for the candidacy. The nominee’s leadership qualities and significant contributions should be highlighted in particular.
- Innovativeness and merits of the mentioned technologies, policies, or programs: A thorough description of the innovativeness and merits of the mentioned technologies, policies, and programs is required. The description of how the nominee’s work has been demonstrated to be a game changer or has shown tremendous potential to be one is welcomed, along with parallels to cutting-edge technologies, existing policies, and programs.
- Impact on humanity: It is important to define the current state of preparation and the scope of the implementation of the mentioned technologies, policies, and programs. In circumstances where the scope of the implementation and level of preparation are currently modest, the nominators should forecast any long-term benefits or quantify the influence of the nominee’s contribution on improving mankind.
