The YALI RLC SA Emerging Leaders Programme 2023 – Online Cohort 18 is now accepting applications. The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is a recognized initiative to support Africa’s future leaders. The University of South Africa’s Graduate School of Business Leadership in Midrand, South Africa, serves as the host institution for the YALI Regional Leadership Center Southern Africa (RLC SA).
The RLC SA strives to cultivate entrepreneurial and innovative thinking, cross-border communication, and multicultural collaboration. It also aims to develop critical thinkers who can tackle difficult, multidisciplinary challenges. Young African leaders’ abilities are developed by the RLC SA through core training in current African concerns and specialized training in three important areas: business and entrepreneurship; civic leadership; and public management.

Benefits
This program provides:
- 7 weeks of intensive training in business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, and public management were provided in-person or online.
- Conferences and activities organized by the Center or the Alumni provide networking opportunities.
- Mentorship: A partnership where time, talent, skills, and knowledge are all shared between a mentor and participant.
- Opportunities for cross-cohort, cross-country, and cross-sector collaboration on projects of common interest.
Eligibility
Young African leaders that fit the requirements can apply for the program:
- Age (18-35)
- linguistic proficiency in English
- Portuguese for the program in Portuguese
- a dedication to having a positive impact on Africa, their own countries, and communities.
- dedication to serving the continent of Africa’s development goal.
- demonstrated leadership potential and enthusiasm for civic leadership, entrepreneurship development, and public management
- Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Kingdom of Eswatini, Zambia, and Zimbabwe young leaders are eligible to engage in the program.
The program promotes submissions from:
- emerging leaders from economically underprivileged and rural areas
- young people with disabilities leading
- Women
- those with AIDS or those who are HIV positive
- People that represent and fight for the rights of LGBTIQ populations around the region
