Applications are being accepted for Impact Amplifier’s Africa Online Safety Fund.

Over the past ten years, there has been a significant growth in internet usage in Africa, with over 520 million people, or 40% of the population, now having access to the internet. This has created numerous new prospects for socioeconomic growth, with one of them being the potential for the internet economy to boost Africa’s GDP by around $180 billion by 2025.

Grants will be given by the Africa Online Safety Fund to organizations that deal with one or more of the safety concerns the internet facilitates.

Three grant types are available through the Africa Online Safety Fund: transformative, maturing, and catalytic. The more expansive, multi-geographic, and/or possibly very big number of beneficiaries, as well as scalable as a solution, transformative projects are meant to be. The goals of the Maturing initiatives are to test theories on a bigger scale, incorporate fresh concepts into ongoing projects, and engage new audiences. The Catalytic projects are meant to be more focused, localized, and possibly only of a cultural nature.

Eligibility

Applicants may be nonprofits, for-profit businesses, or government agencies. Every applicant will not be taken into consideration.
Although the Fund accepts organizations from all of Sub-Saharan Africa, it gives Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, and Ghana priority.

Applications must be submitted in full to be considered.

Grant

A maximum of $50,000 will be allocated for transformative grants,
$25,000 for maturing grants,

and $10,000 for catalytic grants. Organizations are only permitted to apply for funding up to 50% of their yearly budget, assuming your proposal fits within the category descriptions offered.

Selection Standards

The following key factors will be taken into consideration while choosing the successful applicants:
REPLICATION AND INNOVATION: How new is the intervention or service? Can it serve as a template for different interventions? Does it mimic previous effective internet safety initiatives from various regions?

What is the scope of the internet safety issue being addressed in terms of SOCIAL IMPACT? What might the intervention’s social effects be? What possible effects might there be if the intervention is scaled up beyond the original plan? Can it really be stepped up? (Is it affordable, enduring, and replicable?)
How probable is it that the intervention will be successful in achieving its stated objectives?
MANAGEMENT TEAM – How strong and experienced is the management team, and what examples has it created for collaboration, attaining objectives, and serving beneficiaries?

FINANCIAL EFFICIENCY: Is the requested money an effective use of available resources? How do the requested sum, the size of the issue to be solved, and the intended recipients stack up against other applicants?
Can the proposed intervention continue to be financially viable when this grant expires? If so, in what way and on what a scale?
