The Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens (BKMC) is proud to announce another call for applications for the Global Citizen Scholarship Program, which will be in its sixth cycle after several extremely successful cycles. The goal of the program is to empower young African global citizens who are passionate about taking action for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
By proposing and carrying out a localized SDG Micro-Project and taking advantage of a summer school as well as various expert trainings and workshops on particular topics, the GC Scholarship equips young African change-makers to address one or more of the SDGs in their community.

Requirements
15 young African changemakers, aged 20 to 35, from an African nation, are the target audience for the training.
Eligibility
Are you…
- an energetic and young African leader between the ages of 20 and 35
- driven to take action in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- looking forward to learning more about sustainable development entrepreneurship during an online summer school with MCI Innsbruck and
- ready to propose and carry out a localized SDG Micro-Project between May and December 2023 in order to address one or more SDGs in your community.
You have…
- B2 is the minimum English level.
- completed at least one year of a master’s program, have been pursuing a PhD, or will graduate from a master’s program or higher in the next two years.
Benefits
- The chosen scholars will have the opportunity to advance their knowledge of Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals over the course of eight months, as well as to build professional networks and broaden their understanding of the field of entrepreneurship for sustainable development.
- Other advantages include a USD 50,000 seed grant to support the implementation of an SDG Micro-Project that will be given out following the successful submission of a project proposal, full cost coverage for summer school training with MCI Innsbruck and coverage of other expert workshops, and more.
- A Certificate of Achievement presented following the completion of the SDG Micro-Project, which is endorsed by the Ban Ki-moon Center Co-Chairs.
How to nominate someone:
As part of the nomination procedure, you must submit:
- Your personal information (e.g. name, contact information, date of birth, address, citizenship, gender, education, language competence, short profile description)
- Your contact information (e.g. academic titles, name of organization, function)
- Information about the SDG Micro-Project (title, issues and SDGs tackled, general process and implementation)
- You will be required to attach the following documents when submitting your nomination at the very end:
- a letter of motivation (max 250 words)
- a photo of yourself in a portrait (JPEG or PNG format)
- a video of you giving your introduction (max 30 seconds, MP4 or MOV format)
- a resume
