The Middle East Programme Internship 2023 at the Wilson Center is now accepting applications. Interns will be given the choice of working entirely remotely, partially remotely, or in-person for 20 hours per week supporting project activities with the Middle East Programme Staff.
Successful applicants for the Middle East Programme paid internship will get practical experience at one of the top think tanks in the world and will meet top international public policy practitioners and experts. As the Middle East Programme aims to raise the views and experiences of many people in the region, interns will also get insight into the dynamics and workings of governance, the corporate sector, activism, and academia. Candidates who have a demonstrated interest in or expertise with Middle Eastern issues and policies are given priority by the selection committee, which also works to enhance their professional skills.

Responsibilities of an Intern
- 40% of the workload is administrative and logistical:
- Edit and post updates, announcements of events, and articles on the Middle East Programme website.
- An aid program Contact list database is managed and updated by staff;
- the upkeep of the Middle East Program webpage;
- Help the program staff with the planning of public events by maintaining mailing lists, RSVPs, and messages.
- 40% of the job is written and research-related.
- Create an independent research project on a subject of the intern’s choosing that has been authorized for publication as an opinion piece as part of the Middle East Program’s Viewpoints series.
- complete both short-term and long-term initiatives for the program’s employees, including as data collecting and analysis.
- examine, condense, and archive the research materials;
- modify, and publish written content on the website after it has been proofread;
- 20% of the workload is devoted to social media and communications.
- Write emails containing event notices and published content for the Program’s mailing list.
- Create audiograms, promotional movies, and infographics as visual content.
- Update publications, events, and programs on Facebook and Twitter.
Eligibility
- Applicants should have a clear interest in the Middle East, particularly with coursework or job experience connected to the region’s concerns;
- Outstanding abilities in both qualitative and quantitative research;
- Powerful editing and writing skills;
- Although not necessary, experience with producing promotional photos and films and managing social media accounts is preferred;
- Powerful communication abilities
- Although not necessary, advanced knowledge of Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Turkish, or Kurdish is preferred.
- A recent graduate (within the last year), a current undergraduate student, or someone who has been admitted to an advanced degree program are all requirements for applicants.
- Foreign students can apply, but they need to have a J-1 or F-1 visa that is current and have the proper work authorization. Any international student who wishes to complete an internship at the Center must obtain formal authorization from their designated school official or responsible visa officer at their university. This authorization must attest to the student’s legal immigration status.

- Send your résumé, a letter outlining how you could help our team and what you hope to achieve from the internship,
- as well as a 5-7 page writing sample to be considered for the position (can be an excerpt of a longer paper).
- All application materials must be submitted in a single PDF file.
- Include your last name and the internship cycle you’re applying for in the subject line. “Smith Internship Application Summer 2023,” for instance. Moreover, make it clear when and where you are available to work.
