Applications are now being accepted for the 2023 Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship (BTFT) at the American Embassy in Cyprus. The BFTF is a comprehensive short-term exchange program designed to strengthen tie. And raise awareness of common ideals among young Europeans and Americans.

Through a series of lectures, seminar discussions, and presentations, as well as a wide range of useful, mentor-led workshops. The four-week program will allow students, ages 16 to 18, to investigate U.S. foreign policy priorities like youth engagement, support for democracy and civil society, and economic prosperity.
In order to give participants a more comprehensive understanding of American society. During their exchange, coursework and classroom activities will be supplemented by community service projects, site visits, social and cultural events, and homestays with American families.
Participants will have the chance to discuss a variety of subjects throughout the program. Including
- democratic practices,
- conflict resolution,
- problem solving,
- communication skills,
- critical thinking,
- tolerance
- and respect for diversity,
- youth leadership,
- team building,
- disinformation,
- and the media,
- as well as how the right to free speech gives citizens rights and places obligations on them. Participants must carry out community service projects upon their return and submit an alumni project proposal to a youth-serving or youth-focused organization in their home nation.
Cost
The U.S. government funds the program. Which offers participants a complete scholarship that includes visa, travel, housing, educational materials, ground transportation costs, and travel insurance.
Eligibility
Candidate qualifications include:
- Obtain permission from their legal guardian(s) to travel to the U.S. and participate in either program. Unless they are over the age of 18 at the time of submitting their application.
- Be highly proficient in English, as demonstrated in a personal interview or the results of a standardized test.
- Be committed to enrolling in high school or university in the U.S. between June 24, 2004, and June 24, 2007.
- Demonstrate strong leadership potential and an interest in transatlantic relations and diplomacy;
- show a genuine desire to learn about the United States through academic grades, awards, and teacher recommendations;
- show a commitment to their community and extracurricular activities; and have little to no prior U.S. study or travel experience.
- Be capable of participating in a rigorous summer program that includes community service and educational travel; be able to live in shared housing; be mature, responsible, independent, confident, open-minded, tolerant, thoughtful, and inquisitive; be at ease traveling with a diverse, coed group of participants from across Europe and the United States; be at ease interacting with the Americans they meet in the host communities;
- All applicants should be very interested in learning about international politics, the transatlantic relationship, the function of the free press in a democracy, and volunteer work.
- They should have a strong, established interest in advocacy, discussion, and civic engagement.
- They should be academically qualified for a course of this difficulty and have the character traits necessary for success, such as maturity, excellent social skills, adaptability, and open-mindedness.
