JIAS will host a group of African creative writers who are promising in this area of literature for a workshop which will involve intensive writing for a period of four weeks. The workshop is intended for writers in their early career who have current work in progress that they would like to complete or improve. Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study Writing Fellowships 2022 for Emerging African Creative Writers.
This is a new initiative and each writer will focus on their individual work and also read other writers’ work to provide feedback in this inaugural workshop. The initiative will provide a supportive structure to the writers who will participate. The workshop will last from June 2 to June 29, 2022.
Requirements to Participate
Participation in this workshop is free and there is no application fee required from those intending to participate. However, each writers’ workshop participant will receive;
- Accommodation at JIAS’ private residence
- Daily meals
- An intensive and immersive creative experience
- Mentorship from renowned and accomplished writers

- A copy of your passport ID page
- A CV
- A one-page project proposal
- A writing sample i.e., playwriting and screenwriting (send the first 10 pages of your script), fiction and creative non-fiction (5-10 pages), poetry (3-5 poems).
